Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association on Thursday, Jan. 19 for a pleasant hike at Lake James near Marion. The outing will feature visits to three historic cemeteries in the park. This outing was originally scheduled for December but was postponed because of bad weather.

The approximately 4-mile hike is rated as easy to moderate as it will mostly follow level, graded trails that offer local history and beautiful lake views. Some off-trail hiking will be necessary to see one of the graveyards.

Hikers should come to the Paddy’s Creek side of the park and meet Hike Leader Kevin Cox at the Holly Discovery Trailhead at 10 a.m. Kevin can give you directions if you need them.

The group will be limited to 14, so please contact Kevin ahead of time to reserve your spot. He can be reached at: rodney.cox@ncparks.gov (preferred) or 828-536-8736.

Bring lunch, snacks, water, warm clothes and rain gear if the forecast is threatening.

As always, check the High Peaks Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org, for last-minute changes due to weather.
