Moonlight Hike to Green Knob Fire Tower CANCELED!

Sorry folks but with a 70% chance of thunderstorms this evening we don't want to be up on a metal tower.  Hike will be rescheduled in late summer or early fall.

Please join NC High Peaks on Saturday, June 27 for an unusual stroll.  We will be returning to Green Knob Fire Tower but this time we plan an evening visit!

We will begin the stroll around sunset from Green Knob Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway and reach the tower during twilight with a nearly full moon to help light the way.  After admiring the unique view of the Blue Ridge and Black Mountains by moonlight we will return to the cars using flashlights and headlamps.  This is a relatively short hike but the path is uneven.  Hiking poles are recommended.  Bring a flashlight or headlamp.

Participants should meet at the Burnsville Town Square at 8 p.m. to board a Yancey County Transportation Van.  A donation of $5 per person is requested. Alternately hikers may meet the group at the Green Knob Overlook at 9 p.m.  We should return to Burnsville around 11:30 p.m.

Leashed dogs are welcome on the stroll, but no dogs are allowed in the van, so if you want to bring your pet you must provide your own transportation.

Please RSVP if you want a seat on the van by contacting hike leader John Whitehouse at trails@nchighpeaks.org or 682-3217.  Please check the club’s website, www.nchighpeaks.org, or Facebook page for last-minute changes due to weather.
