The N.C. High Peaks Trail Association invites members and the public to its annual meeting at 3 p.m. onSunday, Sept. 27 at the Education Center at Mt. Mitchell State Park. Transportation will be provided to and from Burnsville and light refreshments served as the club promotes its role as the official Friends of Mt. Mitchell State Park organization.
The group will elect three Board members and review the past year’s activities, while previewing an exciting schedule of hikes, trail maintenance days and other activities for the coming year. One of the park’s rangers will provide a short program about the park, which is celebrating its 100th Anniversary as North Carolina’s first state park.
Participants are invited to drive to Mt. Mitchell or take a van from the Burnsville Town Square for a donation of $5. The van will leave Burnsville shortly after 1 p.m. and return around 5 p.m. If you drive, go all the way to the summit parking area and follow the path that heads toward the tower on the top. The Education Center will be on your left about halfway up.
If you plan to take the van, please reserve a seat by contacting John Whitehouse at 682-3217 or e-mail at email@example.com. Please bring warm clothes and a rain jacket if the weather is threatening as the group plans to visit the Mt. Mitchell tower and take in the tremendous views.
