High Peaks Trail Maintenance Day on Friday, February 19

02/19/2016 8:30 am

It’s been awhile since the High Peaks crew has been able to get out but Friday is looking good weather wise.  On the club hike up Colbert Ridge on Feb. 6 we noticed the trail is starting to close in with vegetation.  Also we have a couple downed trees (and may have more after last night’s windstorm).  In addition it’s been some time since we cleared the side trail to Locust Falls.  If we have enough volunteers we will tackle both.

We’ll need one sawyer.  Other crew members should bring loppers and hand saws if you have them.  I will have extra tools.  The trail is liable to be slippery so wear boots with good tread.  Bring plenty of water, lunch and snacks.  Wear layers and bring work gloves (I do have extra gloves).

Meeting times and places:

Burnsville Town Square (N side):  8:30

Toe River Crafts (near the junction of NC 80 and Seven Mile Ridge Rd.):  9:00

Let me know if you plan to join the crew and where you will meet us.  Contact me at trails@nchighpeaks.org
