Join NC High Peaks on Saturday March 5 for an exploration of a little known mine and historic mining shack high on Winter Star Ridge overlooking the Cattail Creek Community. This will be a six to seven mile loop hike on old logging roads, featuring a side trip to Twin Falls, the tallest waterfall on the western side of the Blacks.
Meet at 9 a.m. at the parking lot across from the Weller's and the Cattail Creek Association Community Hall (two miles east of Pensacola on Cattail Creek Rd.) to arrange for a short car pool to the trailhead. Bring lunch and water for the hike.
After the hike we'll return to the Weller's cabin for a potluck supper. Brats and beans will be served. Please bring a side dish to share and your favorite beverage – you’ll be able to leave them at the Weller’s before the hike begins.
For more information call Dennis Smith at 284-4000 or Susan Weller at 284-8505.
