Field Trip to Banner Elk

10/22/2016
US/Eastern

Join us for a field trip to the Banner Elk Greenway.  This trip offers a variety of birding opportunities including a wooded city park, a pond and river, and a natural field setting.  Our beautiful mountain fall weather offers us an excellent time to be out in nature and observe migrating birds.  We plan to bird from about 10 am to 1pm along the Greenway, including taking time out for lunch.

As a bonus to this trip, the Blue Ridge Wildlife Rehab Center, located just off the Greenway, has offered to put out more display birds for our group during their usual 1pm Saturday raptor talk.  They will have close up and hands on displays of raptors, song birds, snakes and possibly more.  There will also be a talk by staff with Q and A that will last a half hour to a hour.  We expect to be back in Burnsville by 3:30 pm.

Want to go?  Please RSVP to birds@nchighpeaks.org by October 15 so we can get a head count. We may choose to schedule public transportation at $5 per person.  Here are the particulars:

1. Meet at Rose's parking lot at 8:30 am and we will car pool to Banner Elk.  If you wish to drive your self, meet us at Mills Pond in Banner Elk at 9:50 am.

2. Pack a lunch, dress for the weather, bring binoculars.

3. Adults and children are welcome.
