Jason Project Seeks Hike Leaders

We are subscribers to the NC High Peaks Trail Association  and greatly enjoy reading about the wonderful hikes that your group takes in the Western Carolina area !!    As avid hikers who love the outdoors, we thought that some of you might be interested in knowing about our hiking project for at-risk kids which takes place at Grandfather Mountain.

We are the organizers of The Jason Project, Inc.  and “The Grandfather Challenge” hiking program for at-risk kids, which takes place at Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC.    This program is designed for students suffering from mental disorders and/or drug addictions. You can see a brief article about our program at this link from the High Country Press:

At no cost to the schools or students,  we provide hiking boots, backpacks, socks, raincoats, professional hike guides,  etc to the kids for their hikes. At the end of the program we host an Awards Dinner for the kids in their honor, and they are given a Certificate Of Completion.   These hikes are taken on four weekly school days (for example, four Tuesdays in a row). The difficulty of the trails increases with each hike.

For a facebook review of a recent inner city school in Gastonia, NC to complete our hikes, please see:

Now in our third year of existence, we have served middle and high school students in Avery, Catawba, Caldwell, Lincoln, and Gaston counties.  We are wrapping up our 2018 season this month, and hope to be expanding to other NC counties next year.  We try to keep our eyes and ears open to qualified, experienced, and quality hiking guides to lead our groups, and thought that some of you might be interested in learning more about us.   Although we pay our hike guides generously, we seek individuals whose main motivation is a belief in our program and the goals that we aspire to achieve. Our need right now is to increase our pool of qualified leaders, and if you signed up to participate,  you would most likely lead only one group (which would be four hikes) next season, which runs from April through October. As we grow from year to year the potential for leading more hikes in the future is possible.

If you are interested and want to learn more and/or have questions, please email me at the address below.

Thank you very much  !!
