Blackstock Knob on MST- Saturday, July 20

Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association for a hike across Blackstock Knob on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail on Saturday July 20th. This high-elevation hike offers spectacular views of the Asheville Watershed and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The strenuous 4.6-mile hike begins at Balsam Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway, climbs about 1,000 feet to the top of Blackstock Knob and then descends about 1,000 feet to Highway 128, the road that leads from the Parkway to Mt. Mitchell State Park.

Please be aware that this hike is rated as difficult – in addition to the steep climb and descent, the trail includes a long stretch of uneven rock steps that can be slippery if conditions are wet.

The hike is open to High Peaks members and the general public at no charge. Hikers should pack a lunch, snacks and plenty of water. We will meet at the Burnsville Town Square at 9 a.m. and carpool to Balsam Gap, then car-shuttle after completing the one-way hike.
