Beauty Spot Hike Set for Saturday, Nov. 2

Spectacular views will be the reward for hikers joining High Peaks Trail Association for a Nov. 2 outing to Beauty Spot and Unaka Mountain. The strenuous hike of about 6 miles will include a climb and descent of roughly 1,000 feet.

The hike will traverse a series of balds beginning at Beauty Spot, then proceed steeply up Unaka Mountain before branching off on Red Fork Road to take in the superb views from the Unaka Mountain Overlook. We will then backtrack our path, returning to Beauty Spot.

Hikers should gather at the Burnsville Town Square at 8:30 a.m. Transportation will be provided in a county van for a fee of $5 per person. Leashed dogs are welcome on the hike but not allowed in the van, so if you bring your pet you must provide your own transportation.

Bring a lunch and plenty of water for the trail, along with warm clothes and rain gear if the weather looks threatening. The group should return to the Burnsville Town Square around 4 p.m.
