High Peaks Sets Annual Meeting Sept. 30 at Mt. Mitchell

Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association for some spectacular early Autumn views as the club holds its annual meeting at the restaurant lounge on Mt. Mitchell on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 10 a.m.

Mt. Mitchell State Park Superintendent Rob McGraw will be the special guest, highlighting the club’s role as the official Friends of Mt. Mitchell State Park organization.

Other speakers will review the past year’s activities and outline plans for the coming months. Three Board members will be elected from a slate proposed by a committee, although members may also nominate candidates at the meeting. Current members are eligible to vote in the election. Go to http://nchighpeaks.org/joinor http://nchighpeaks.org/renew if you need to join for 2018.

Light refreshments will be served. Afterwards members may want to enjoy lunch at the park restaurant, hike many of the park’s trails or enjoy a short stroll to the summit tower.

A Yancey County van will be available to transport attendees to the meeting.  Pickup will be at the ROSES PARKING LOT at 9 a.m. and in Celo at 9:20.  Contact John Whitehouse (682-3217 or trails@nchighpeaks.org) to reserve a seat.  A $5 donation is suggested to defer the cost of the van.

Founded in 2010, High Peaks supports outdoor recreation in our area by leading monthly hikes and doing extensive trail maintenance work in a partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mt. Mitchell State Park. For more information visit the club’s Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org.
