High Peaks Leads Black Mountains Adventure July 6

ROSES PARKING LOT Same time 8:30. Look for the Yancey Van. Drop off at the end of the day will be there too.

Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association July 6 when the club leads a challenging hike from Mt. Mitchell to Big Tom, then down the Buncombe Horse Range Trail to Colbert’s Creek Road.

This very strenuous jaunt will total 8 miles, but offers spectacular views from Maple Camp Bald and the summits, followed by a 3,500-foot descent into the South Toe Valley. Only experienced hikers in good physical shape should participate.

Hikers will meet at the Burnsville Town Square at 8:30 a.m. Transportation will be provided in a Yancey County van for a donation of $5 each, reservations required by 5 p.m. on July 4. Pets are not allowed on the vans so if you want to bring your leashed dog you must provide your own transportation.

Bring lunch, snacks, plenty of water, hiking poles if you use them and foul weather gear in case of storms. The group should return to the Town Square by 5 p.m.

To reserve your seat on the van or for more information, contact Hike Leader John Whitehouse at 682-3217 or trails@nchighpeaks.org.

As always, please check the High Peaks Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org, for last-minute changes due to weather.
