Hike to Crabtree Falls with NC High Peaks Trail Association

Saturday, February 1 brings a good new hiking opportunity — to Crabtree Falls, one of the most beautiful in western NC.  In winter, the falls are often covered in ice. This hike is 2.3 miles each way, with moderate ups & downs over an old logging road and paved road.  The usual route from the Crabtree Falls Campground has more elevation change and is often unavailable in winter due to Blue Ridge Parkway closure.  This less traveled route will begin and end at the home of Dennis Smith, who will lead the hike.  An added attraction is a covered dish lunch after the hike at the Smiths’ house, with chili supplied by Dennis Smith.

Hikers can meet at Rose’s store in Burnsville at 8:15 to form carpools or meet at the Smiths’ house at 9 a.m.  Carpooling is recommended, as parking is limited at the Smiths.

Please RSVP to Dennis Smith by phone (828-284-4000) or email (dennissmith4141@gmail.com).

Hikers should dress warmly in layers.  Bring plenty of water. Leashed dogs are welcome.  As usual, watch for possible cancellation or change in plans due to weather — on our website at https://nchighpeaks.org or Facebook.
