Join High Peaks for Aug. 20 Mt. Mitchell Stroll

Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association at cooler, high elevations for a moderate stroll from Mt. Mitchell to Mt. Craig on Friday, Aug. 20.

The stroll will follow the Black Mountain Crest Trail from the Mt. Mitchell picnic area parking lot to Mt. Craig, a distance of only two miles round-trip. But this trail includes some rock faces that can be slick if wet and a long rock stairway, so hikers need to be at least moderately fit.

Gather at the Mt. Mitchell picnic area parking lot near the summit at 10 a.m. Bring water, snacks and rain gear if the forecast threatens. Leashed dogs are allowed in the park, but owners must clean up after their pets!

The stroll is an out-and-back and the outing should last about two to three hours. It will be limited to 12 participants. To reserve your slot or for more information, contact Stroll Leader Carolyn Raichle at 407-619-6136.

As always, check the High Peaks Facebook page or website,, for last-minute changes due to weather.
