High Peaks Leads Lake James Stroll Thursday, Oct. 14

NC High Peaks invites you to join a pleasant hike at Lake James State Park near Marion on Thursday, Oct. 14. The outing will feature visits to three historic cemeteries in the park.

The approximately 3.5-mile hike is rated as easy to moderate as it will mostly follow graded trails that offers beautiful lake views. Some off-trail hiking will be necessary to see one of the graveyards.

Hikers will meet at the Lake James beach access on the Paddy’s Creek side of the park (where there are restrooms) at 10 a.m.  After meeting there we will drive a short distance to the Holly Discovery trailhead where the hike will begin. The drive to Lake James from Burnsville will take about an hour each way.

Strollers are requested to wear masks.  Dogs should be on a leash at all times in the park.  No group transportation will be provided due to COVID protocols.

Bring lunch, snacks, water, warm clothes and rain gear if the forecast is threatening.  We plan to have lunch at the park.  Please contact Hike Leader Kevin Cox at rodney.cox@ncparks.gov (preferred) or 828-675-6352 by Tuesday evening, Oct. 12 to reserve a spot on the hike.  We will limit the group to 12.  Reservations are on a first come basis.

As always, check the High Peaks Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org, for last-minute changes due to weather.
