High Peaks Leads New Year’s Day Hikes

Start the New Year off right by joining the NC High Peaks Trail Association on Jan. 1 for one of two hikes at the Black Mountain Campground.  THE HIKE IS "ON" FOR JANUARY 1.  We recommend masks at the beginning when we are all together.  If you are hiking with us on the First Day Hike please review the Liability Waiver below. You will be required to sign that you have read and understood it.

WE HAVE REACHED OUR MAXIMUM NUMBER PLUS SOME SO WE CANNOT THAKE ANY MORE HIKERS. Soory!

One hike will be a moderate, 2.5-mile jaunt on the Lower River Loop, while a separate, more ambitious hike will traverse 3.7 miles on the Upper River Loop.

Hikers should assemble at the parking lot across from the entrance to the Black Mountain Campground at 10 a.m. Bring lunch, water, snacks, hiking poles if you use them, foul weather gear if needed and plenty of layers of warm clothes.

Both groups will commence with a visit to beautiful Setrock Falls, located a short distance away in the campground.

Leashed dogs are allowed on the hikes, but bring your poop bags! Both hikes will last an estimated 2 to 3 hours.

The groups will be limited, so contact Hike Leader John Whitehouse at 828-682-3217 or trails@nchighpeaks.org to reserve your spot. John would also like to hear from you if you have suggestions for hikes in 2022, which the club is planning now. New hike leaders are always welcome!

As always, check the High Peaks Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org, for last-minute changes due to weather.
