High Peaks Leads Lake James Hike April 28

Join the NC High Peaks Trail Association on Thursday, April 28 for a pleasant hike at Lake James near Marion.  The hike will feature visits to three historic cemeteries in the park.

The approximately 4-mile hike is rated as easy to moderate as it will mostly follow level, graded trails that offers beautiful lake views. Some off-trail hiking will be necessary to see one of the graveyards.

Hikers should meet at the Holly Discovery Trailhead at 10:00 a.m. Directions can be found on the Lake James State Park website, or by contacting the Hike Leader as detailed below. The group will be limited to 14 participants, so you must reserve a spot.

Bring lunch, snacks, water, and warm clothes and rain gear if the forecast is threatening. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times within the park and owners must clean up after their pets.

Please contact Hike Leader Kevin Cox at Rodney.cox@ncparks.gov (preferred) or 828-536-8737 by Wednesday evening April 27 for more information or to reserve your spot on the hike.

As always, check the High Peaks Facebook page or website, www.nchighpeaks.org, for last-minute changes due to weather.
