Experienced, fit hikers are invited to join the NC High Peaks Trail Association hike to Grandfather Mountain - also known as Calloway Peak - on Friday, Dec. 6.
This is a tough out-and-back loop hike that covers 8 miles along the Tanawha, Daniel Boone Scout and Cragway Trails. There is some scrambling on rock faces as well as traversing three ladders bolted to steep faces, so this hike is not for those afraid of heights and not suited for dogs.
Bring plenty of food and water, hiking poles if you use them and clothes suitable for the weather forecast.
Meet at the Rose’s Shopping Center on the corner overlooking Highway 19-E in Burnsville at 8:00 a.m. We’ll carpool to the Boone Fork parking area, so hikers can meet the group there around 9:30 a.m. if they wish.
Please contact hike leader Jimmie Bowen at jimmie@nchighpeaks.org or 252-450-5224 to let him know you are coming and where you plan to meet the group.
