NC High Peaks will lead hikers along the Black Mountain Crest Trail from Bolens Creek to Celo Knob on Friday, September 19. This is a very strenuous nine mile out and back hike with over 3000 feet of elevation gain, taking 6-7 hours to complete. Hikers should have a relatively high level of fitness and some experience hiking at elevation. Aside from the physical challenge of the ascent, hikers will enjoy the hopefully peaceful waters of Bolens Creek as well as some fantastic long range views and alpine meadows from Celo Knob. What a great way to celebrate the recovery of our trails as we approach the one year anniversary of Helene.
Be sure to bring plenty of food and water for this day-long hike and have appropriate clothing in preparation for changing weather conditions. Sturdy hiking shoes and trekking poles are recommended.
Well behaved leashed dogs are welcome, but remember that they also will need food and water and should be conditioned for a long strenuous day over a rocky, uneven trail.
Hikers will meet at the Bolens Creek trailhead parking area just off of Bolens Creek Road at Watershed Road at 8:00am. There is a charge of $5 per vehicle for parking, cash or Venmo is accepted.
Contact hike leader Jimmie Bowen at jimmie@nchighpeaks.org to sign up and for any questions.
