New Details for Crabtree Falls Hike- Sat, Jan 14

After conducting trail maintenance on the Celo Community to Crabtree Falls trail last week, the North Carolina High Peaks Association has decided to reclassify their hike planned for this Saturday, Jan. 14, from “stroll” to “moderately difficult.” The loop trail picked out is 6.5 miles, with a steep ascent up an old wagon road and a possibly icy descent to the falls. Along the way there are some panoramic views of the Blacks, from Mt. Mitchell to Celo.

Hikers should meet at the Burnsville Town Square at 9:30 or the Celo Inn parking lot at 10 for carpooling. The hike will end at Dennis Smith’s house on Seven Mile Ridge Rd., where he will serve chili. Those planning to participate should call Smith at 675-9459 or 284-4000 so he can get a head count. Hikers are invited to bring a side dish that can be dropped off before the hike.
