VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!! NC High Peaks has partnered with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Mount Mitchell State Park to plant 250 small red spruce saplings near Camp Alice on Wednesday, May 17. To accomplish this, all three organizations are recruiting volunteers. NC High Peaks would like to provide 15 volunteers to this effort. Please volunteer if you can… many hands make less work!
We will be meeting a Yancey Transportation van at Rose’s parking lot at 8:00 AM for an 8:15 departure to Mt Mitchell. Please bring lunch and a shovel if you have one. Those wishing to drive themselves can meet us at the Mt. Mitchell Ranger Station at 9:30.
Please notify Russ Oates (rmoates54@gmail.com), as soon as possible, if you can volunteer for this project. Let him know if you plan to take the van, drive yourself, and if you can bring a shovel. The planting site has a fair cover of mostly spineless brambles so you may want to wear thicker pants. Also, it would be helpful if you could bring some hand pruners to clear around the planting sites.
