Join the High Peaks Birders for a birding stroll on Thursday, May 18th at 8:30 am.  We will hike a portion of Forest Road 472 and the Mountains-to-Seas Trail as we look and listen for birds.  This area is located about 0.5 miles east (before) the Mt. Mitchell Trailhead and the Black Mountain Campground.

The outing is open to everyone and will be led by experienced birders who will be happy to help any novices that want to learn about birds.  Many birds will be singing as the males establish their breeding territories so we will be birding by ear and learning various bird songs.

Meet at the south end of the South Toe River Road right after it crosses Neal’s Creek and at the triangle intersection where it turns sharply right.   If you reach the parking lot for the Mt. Mitchell Trailhead or the Black Mountain Campground, you went too far.  The birding stroll will be a leisurely pace for about 2.0 miles along a gravel road and a mountainous trail. There is one somewhat challenging water crossing.
