Celebrate Earth Day on Monday, April 22 by joining the Mt. Mitchell State Park staff and NC High Peaks Trail Association in a tree-planting project high atop the tallest mountain in the Eastern U.S.
The group will assemble at the Park Office at 9 a.m. and will be planting spruce and fir seedlings.
Bring a shovel if you have one, as well as work gloves, sturdy shoes or boots, a hat for the sun, and appropriate clothing. Please note that it is very often cold, windy and misty on the mountain, sometimes as much as 15 to 20 degrees colder than at lower elevations, so dress accordingly.
Volunteers should also bring water, snacks and lunch and be prepared to work through early afternoon.
To register for the event, please contact the Mt. Mitchell staff by emailing mount.mitchell@ncparks.gov or by calling 828-867-4000.
