Mile High Crest Trail Destination For Oct. 6 Outing

The Black Mountain Crest Trail with some of the best views in the East will be the location of the Saturday, Oct. 6 outing of the North Carolina High Peaks Trail Association. Hikers will start at Mt. Mitchell and follow the trail four miles to Deep Gap, at which point they will drop down the old Carolina Spruce Company railroad grade into the Cattail Creek Community where they will find food and fellowship at the John and Sandy Whitehouse Cabin on Winter Star Road.
 
This is a rugged seven to eight mile hike, half of which is more than a mile high. Participants should wear sturdy boots and bring hearty snacks, plenty of water, and rain gear. Dogs are welcome.
 
Hikers should meet at the Burnsville Town Square at 8:30 to arrange car pooling.
